Core Team Application: The MCS-1 Project
Green 4 Better is a student-led community non-profit. Our mission is to inspire students and communities to explore practical sustainability ideas while encouraging responsible use of resources and environmental awareness. We achieve this by building real-world tools and systems that move environmental theory into actual practice.
We are now opening applications for a select few to join our Core Team for the upcoming project cycle. We are currently refining the MCS-1, a smart bio-reactor prototype, and preparing to enter it into several high-level competitions. This project involves real-world collaboration with partners across both the public and private sectors, and we need a team that’s ready to take it to the finish line.
To be clear: We aren’t looking for members to just "help out." We are looking for driven students who want to take true ownership of a non-profit’s goals. If you're tired of just reading about environmental issues and want to build a practical solution, this is for you. We need people who are ready to learn, build, and represent our organization with professional integrity.
Engineering & R&D: Finalizing the 30"x30"x30" hardware, mastering waterproofing, and optimizing our proprietary aeration systems.
Because we are preparing for competitions and engaging with external professionals, we are being highly selective. We need a team that is:
Committed: This is a long-term project. We need people who see the vision through until the job is done.
Professional: You will be a face of this organization. Reliability and clear communication are non-negotiable.
Action-Oriented: We value "builders" over "talkers." If you like exploring ideas by actually creating them, you'll fit right in.
Applications will be reviewed and selections made before the Fall semester begins. If you’re ready to put your environmental awareness into practice, apply below.

We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Allen Wu is joining Green 4 Better as an advisor and mentor. A USC and CalTech-trained expert in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Dr. Wu previously managed critical water infrastructure for Los Angeles County. His deep technical background, combined with a Master’s in Public Administration, makes him a vital leader for our mission. Under his guidance, our team will reach new heights in sustainable engineering and community focused environmental solutions. Welcome to the team, Dr. Wu!

We are so excited to officially welcome Evelyn Shih to the Green 4 Better team! Currently a sophomore at Boston University, Evelyn is balancing a demanding Pre-Med track in Human Physiology with a minor in Advertising. She’s joining us as a University Student Mentor and Advisor, where she’ll be a bridge between environmental science and community health. Evelyn truly believes that protecting our planet is a form of preventative medicine, and she’s eager to help our younger students see that connection too. We can’t wait to see the energy and unique perspective she brings to our upcoming projects.

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Xinan Wu to the Green 4 Better team.
Dr. Wu joins us with an incredible background as a Stanford Ph.D. in Applied Physics. He has spent years leading high-performance engineering at industry giants like Citadel Securities and Hulu. Having someone with his expertise in big data and system optimization is a huge milestone for our project.
What we’re most excited about, however, is his role as a mentor to our student team. He is currently leading our students through the complex task of analyzing data from the MCS-1 system. Under his guidance, the students are building a specialized software tool to push the efficiency and power of our recycling systems to their absolute limits. We can’t wait to see the breakthroughs our students will achieve with his mentorship. Welcome to the team, Dr. Wu!

We’ve been hard at work developing the CMS-1 compact composting system, and recently, we’ve been incredibly encouraged by the support coming from our local community.
A big thank you to Valley Vista Services. Having a trusted leader in waste and recycling support our project is a meaningful vote of confidence. It reminds us that what we’re building is not just an idea, but something with real potential to make composting more accessible for everyday households.
We’re also grateful for the growing support from local businesses here in Diamond Bar, including Pop Pot & Tea. Seeing a neighborhood restaurant stand behind a composting initiative reflects how sustainability is becoming something people genuinely care about in their daily lives.
This kind of support shows us that sustainability is not just a concept, but something communities can come together to support and build. We’re thankful to have these partners with us as we continue moving forward.
