Every event is a reminder that real change starts with small actions and a community willing to be part of it.
Green 4 Better at the City of Diamond Bar Earth Day Celebration - 4/25/26
This Saturday, we returned to the Diamond Bar Earth Day event with a significantly more advanced version of the MCS-1 system.
For our student team, it was a weekend of intense focus and rewarding progress. The work began immediately after school on Friday; instead of heading home to rest, the team gathered to finalize the assembly and fine-tune the system for the public. This version of the MCS-1 represents a major leap forward, we successfully integrated the solar-powered core with the vertical exhaust conduit. Seeing the fans activate under the sun and feeling the steady airflow through the system proved that our concept is no longer just a drawing, but a functional scientific solution.
Event Details:
Date: April 25, 2026
Location:
South Coast Air Quality Management District
21865 Copley Drive,
Diamond Bar, CA 91765
Booth: Green 4 Better
Our activities at the event focused on three key areas:
First, we engaged in technical demonstrations. We showed the community how the MCS-1 intake system works to accelerate decomposition through active aeration. We were honored to receive significant interest from the EVAOSC (Electric Vehicle Association of Southern California). Their representatives were so impressed by our green energy integration that they extended a formal invitation for Green 4 Better to participate in their upcoming events. This recognition is a huge boost for our student-led reasearch and development.
Second, we acted as community environmental ambassadors. In collaboration with the Walnut Valley Water District (WVWD), we promoted water conservation and resource recycling at our booth, connecting our engineering goals with everyday sustainable habits.
Finally, we held a charity sale to fund our future research. We are incredibly grateful to the local businesses that donated items for this sale. Every dollar raised will go directly toward the thermal storage and smart monitoring phase.
From the classroom to the city square, Green 4 Better is taking steady, practical steps toward a greener future. We want to thank our Diamond Bar neighbors for their feedback and support, bringing us one step closer to making urban circular living a reality!
Sharing the evolution: The team describes the integration of the vertical exhaust and solar power in the advanced MCS-1 Prototype 1 to the Field Representative for California State Assembly Member, 56th District. Discussing the path from student research to policy-supported innovation.
Explaining the science: Team members detail the MCS-1 solar aeration and intake logic to former Diamond Bar Mayor and current City Council Member Dr. Teng. Council Member Teng provided valuable feedback on urban integration.
Green 4 better Community Outreach - 4/18/2026
Location: Walnut Valley Water District
We had a great turnout at the Walnut Valley Water District Earth Day Open House. Thank you to WVWD for hosting such a meaningful event and bringing the community together around sustainability and water conservation.
This event also marked our first joint showcase with our chapter member, UAAYA, making it an especially meaningful milestone as we bring student-driven ideas into the community together.
Green 4 Better presented our integrated compost aeration system, combining a fishbone style air distribution design with a solar-powered in-line fan. Working together as one system, it improves airflow, efficiency, and overall compost performance. It sparked a lot of interest and great conversations with visitors.
We truly appreciate everyone’s support and encouragement, and we’ll be sharing more progress soon.

Green4better Community Outreach - 3/20/2026
Green4Better successfully held its first community outreach event in front of the Walnut Vons supermarket.
Despite the intense heat, our students showed incredible dedication and energy. They actively introduced the Green4Better initiative to local residents and supported WVWD in promoting a series of environmental programs.
We only have one Earth, and these students are truly stepping up to make a difference. During the first two hours, they also made great use of their time by gathering together to finalize and complete outreach materials.
We are proud of their commitment and teamwork in driving positive change within the community.
Short clips created by our team to share creativity, teamwork, and the fun side of making a different.
Green4Better Compost Learning Visit - 3/6/2026
As part of the Green4Better project, students will participate in a hands-on learning visit to observe a real composting site and learn how organic waste can be transformed into nutrient-rich soil.
During this visit, students will gain an introduction to the composting process, including how natural decomposition works and how organic materials such as food scraps and plant waste can become valuable resources for plant growth.
This experience marks the first step of our project, allowing students to learn through observation and participation. By seeing the composting process in action, students will gain a deeper understanding of sustainable resource cycles and how these ideas can be applied in everyday life.
The goal of this activity is to help students build knowledge through real-world experience, encouraging curiosity, environmental awareness, and community engagement.
Why This Visit Matters
Understanding how composting works is an important step toward learning how natural resource cycles function in our environment. By observing a real composting operation, students can see how organic materials that are often considered waste can be transformed into valuable soil resources.
This experience helps students connect classroom learning with real-world environmental practices. Through observation and hands-on exploration, students begin to understand how small actions, such as separating organic waste and supporting composting, can contribute to a healthier and more sustainable community.
The visit also encourages curiosity, teamwork, and environmental responsibility as students begin the early stages of their Green4Better project.
Green4better after school team meeting
Today after school, the Green 4 Better team stayed to hold a small group discussion and assign responsibilities for our upcoming projects. The upper grade students completed their task planning, and we also began giving sixth grade student opportunities to take the lead in certain areas.
In our team, age is not what defines ability. As long as a student is willing to show up, put in the effort, and take initiative, we are committed to giving them the opportunity to grow. We believe leadership comes from real participation and experience, not simply from grade level.
By working together on projects, students naturally develop communication, teamwork, and problem solving skills. Along the way, they also build confidence and discover their own strengths.
We are also honored to have Dr. Tony Torng, a board member of the Walnut Valley Unified School District, serve as one of our advisors. Moving forward, we plan to invite university professors and professionals with expertise in related project fields to guide and mentor our team.
Green4better Meets with Walnut Valley Water District to Discuss Future Collaboration
Today, the Green 4 Better team held our first meeting at the newly completed Walnut Valley Water District building. During the meeting, we had the opportunity to connect with district representatives and engage in meaningful discussions about potential sustainability initiatives and future collaboration. It was an inspiring and important step forward for our team.
Green 4 Better is a student led initiative focused on environmental awareness, innovation, and real world problem solving. Our mission is to empower students to take initiative, develop leadership skills, and contribute to solutions that positively impact our community.
Following this meeting, our team is now moving from planning into action. We are beginning the development of our first outdoor prototype as we take the next step toward turning ideas into tangible projects.
We also welcome students from our district and from other school districts who share the same passion and vision. If you are interested in leadership, engineering, or hands on sustainability projects, we encourage you to join us. Together, we can learn from one another, grow as leaders, and create meaningful change.
Community Support & Outreach at David & Margaret Youth and Family Services
On February 11, 2026, on behalf of all members of CASA and the Green 4 Better Project Team, we visited David & Margaret Youth and Family Services and donated 75 brand-new bedding sets as a small token of our support.
The campus feels welcoming and thoughtfully organized, and it is clear how much dedication goes into supporting students who need help. We were especially impressed by the on-site supermarket and cafe, where students gain hands-on work experience. It’s not just about providing care. It’s about helping young people build the skills they need to live independently in the future.
We are honored to represent all of our members in making this donation, and we hope our contribution can help make a positive difference.
Thank you to the David & Margaret team for their warm welcome. We look forward to future opportunities to support and collaborate.
